Donation Incentive System?

Hi all,

We were talking for a bit about a donation incentive system because the recruitment team was asking about paid ads, and we also need to make sure we can pay for our fancy site, etc, and honestly we couldn’t come to an agreement we were super happy with.

Basically our biggest fear is having a donation system that is pay to win - we really don’t want that. This pretty much eliminates “buying TPE”, for example, but there’s definitely a lot of other things that fall under that category (one that was suggested by the recruitment team was paying to increase leadership, for example).

We’ve also thrown out the ideas of getting a pass on individual PTs or a full season of PTs (depending on amount donates), or selling money (hello 701!) or something, but we never really came to any kind of a consensus about anything we came up with.

There’s no guarantee we’ll ultimately end up adding something like this, but for now we’re interested in seeing where the league on the whole is at and what ideas you may have.

how about donations where you can have that instead of doing PTs. It's still the same amount of points possible if you donate or not.

Personally dislike the idea of being able to pay money so you don't have to do PT's but if the money is tight for the SHL operation costs I wouldn't mind it but only as a last resort thing.

If we introduce donations with a benefit I think being able to buy SHL money for IRL money should be fine (rip 701). But that should also be capped to some extend. People will say that will limit media but I hope this would just improve the quality of the average SHL media instead of having poor quality cash grab articles.

Id rather pay some real cash and help the site than write a 2k article about Demarcus Smyth's battle with hemorrhoids throughout the season. No one wants to see that. But I would be against making it to where you don't have to do PT's.

I feel like buying money is worse because it's makes the already inflated ecosystem even more pointless when it comes to contracts. Plus ultimately it's still the same idea as PTs for about the same amount of points.

I'm not in the position where I'd be able to support the site financially, sorry. I wish that there was a way that I could support the site without having to pay anything. I really like the community here, but I cannot give back financially. If I could, I would.

I don't think I'd like to be able to skip a season of PTs. They're really helpful for getting to know the community and are very helpful for new players. I cannot see why one would want to skip them other than just being lazy.

I cannot immediately think of a solution that would satisfy me at the present moment, unfortunately. I'd like to support the site without having to pay, and I'd rather not be disadvantaged for the fact that I am unable to pay.

I'd sooner explore and see how much we could raise (if we're truly tight on money) for the site just based off people wanting to/being able to support the league, versus straight away offering some form of PTW.

Moreover, selling money feels like it will ruin the amount of media posted to some capacity, so I'd also try and personally avoid that route, as well.

If you need money, just ask. People have shown before that they’re willing to support the site financially simply because they enjoy the SHL experience.

That was my first thought too but imo Contracts won't really be effected that much by it. Most SHL players are already on minimum contracts or 1m above their contract minimum.
BUF has no SHL roster player that gets paid more than 2m of their TPE minimum

Which is 26/256 players ( a team has usually 1 goalie, 6 defenders, 9 forwards) in the league. McFadden and Rhys only fall in that criteria coz they are on inactive contracts. So essentially that just less than 10% of the league which is pretty negligible imo.

Money compared to PT's doesn't have a deadline and can be generated through various means and there is cap on how much TPE is there around. Money on the other hand has no cap and no deadlines so to speak compared to PT's which makes imo SHL money for donation less valueable than PT passes for donations.

I also dislike the idea of paying to buy SHL money, it's basically a loophole that still allows the pay-to-win mindset. Maybe giving a free pass for a couple PT's would be nice, because that's something we all do anyway.

A few ideas I threw out were:
A bonus to all media for a season
Reduce the word limit for PTs for a season
Allow another maxed attribute for the season

interesting ideas.

let me throw another one into the mix.

What about having a site telethon!

Every XX sesons we dedicate 1 week as donation week.. to start off we get some of our most talented people on the site to donate there time to help create donation packages for members who contribute. Graphic guys to make donation sigs and posters, video guys to create a video package etc .. and then we create a sub section (wall of honors?) for donating members.. with there names highlighted for all to see.

As an example:
- $XX = 1 donation sig, 1 profile badge
- $XX - 1 donation poster with your player on it, 1 donation sig, 1 profile badge
- $XX - Added to the donation wall of honors (subsection) Donation video, 1 donation sig, 1 profile badge

We put up a projected amount wed like to aquire (with explanation to where that money goes) and we follow the amount which has been donated throughout the week...during donation week we can get a host for it... during the week we can run some raffles for SHL money or TPE! (5 dollar donatiuon gets you a raffle ticket!)

We can make money for the site, highlight the members helping and have some fun around it. #Team_Telethon
