Calgary Flames Be A GM

Cousins were at my house on Christmas so for Be A GM, as a fun thing I took Superbman's idea and took the Calgary Flames. Launched into a monstrous rebuild like they always should have and moved Iginla, Kiprusoff, Cammaleri, Bouwmeester, Giordano, Karlsson, Tanguay, Butler, Babchuk, Stajan, Stempniak, basically any guys that would be considered good and weren't young.
I just got extended after the third year and thought I would share mainly what has happened with you guys but won't really update. Don't remember all the trades sadly so here are some of them but they have pieces missing ![]() To Calgary: Ty Rattie To St. Louis Jarome Iginla I probably lose this but Iginla was passing his prime and with his contract no one wanted him. Rattie was four stars and near equal trade value so I made the deal. To Calgary: Jaden Schwartz + To St. Louis: Mike Cammaleri Schwartz is an 85 after 3 years and I'd much rather have him. Great trade and near equal value. To Calgary: MTL 1st Rounder (12th) MTL 2nd Rounder (42nd) Stephen Qualier Brendan Nash To Montreal: Jay Bouwmeester I got Domi with that pick and some solid propsect in the second. Even trade again and he had a huge salary so hard to move... Also moved Butler, Babchuk to Buffalo for Pysyk+. Moved Tanguay to Rangers for Kreider. Moved Stempniak to Rangers for McIlrath. Moved Giordano to SJS for Stalock and a first cause Stalock is an 85 after 3 years and the first got me I think Barkov. Essentially wanted to crap the year and get McKinnon/Shinkaruk. Scouted the crap out of them and Drouin and I also managed somehow to get Philly's, San Jose's first rounders so I had four total. Head to the draft and I selected MacKinnon first overall as he was four and a half and the only top 5. Sure enough he turns out to be FOUR AND A HALF GREEN STARS! After two first line years he is 79. Love it. Then I took Domi, Barkov and then Morrissey went the pick before me at 23rd so 24th I took Goalie Zach Fucale. 3 1/2 stars but I wanted a prospect. Second round I took Zadorov, he was 3 1/2 and BPA. Before the third after many unsuccessful attempts to move Kiprusoff I received an offer too good to pass up. To Calgary Flames: Griffin Reinhart 3rd Rounder To NYI: Miikka Kiprusoff He was getting useless and impossible to move for ANYTHING of value. Reinhart will be a future #1-2 dman for me. 3rd rounder was cause I wanted Subban who I missed by 2 picks anyways <_< Went out in the offseason and had no roster moves so I passed on Pavelski, Sedin(s), Girardi as I was also in rebuild and instead moved Nash + Jones (crap) for a fourth just to free up roster space and signed Lucas Sutter and Tim Bozon who are progressing nicely. 3rd season had to make the playoffs but I left the roster as is. Irving at 83 was my backup and they were going 2 losses per goalie then switch, but we were 8-10-5 so I went with Stalock 100% and we went from 13th in West at December 1st to 3rd in West by the trade deadline. Made a pair of moves at the deadline. To CGY Tyler Toffoli To PIT Akim Aliu I loved Aliu but at best he was third line for me but he went 63-79 in 2 seasons... Turns out he regressed to 78 while Toffoli progressed to 75 and will be a future 2nd/3rd liner so I love this trade. Big win by me here. To CGY: Scott Harrington To PIT: Marcus Granlund Harrigton is **** Yellow and is 71 overall. Granlund only went in 2 seasons of NHL work 59-61-63 so I'd rather have Harrington easy. They wanted to giveup Harrington and wanted Granlund so it was an easy deal. Granlund only went to 64 years end anyways so again a big win as i had a logjam of forward prospects. Got big wins without losing anything really. Got 4 offers from Philly, LAK, Calgary, MTL but I re-signed in CGY for four years. So yeah, next draft was crap and I'll update every now and then. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk
And also for some reason we didn't get Max Reinhart or Sven Bartschi... That hurt A LOT

I really like the Kipper trade.

I was using Calgary in NHL12 and did a very similar thing. Within 2 seasons I had a team so deep that Yakupov was a 3rd liner.

NYR had cap issues so STL was only team and that was the most fair. Rattie is playing like a beast. Also btw after season one Del Zotto was an RFA, offered him a deal with the compensation being a 2nd rounder. He accepted and NYR didn't match so I got DelZ for a second! ![]() Best progressions of the lineup: Backlund 77-81-86-86 Bouma 68-70-74-78 Brodie 74-82-84-84 Irving 70somthin - 83-83-83 Kreider 68-79-83-84 Mackinnon - 62-71-79 Schwartz - 65 - 77 - 82 - 85 Vasko 52-56-61 Wahl 61 - 67 - 76 - 81 Backlund, Kreider, Wahl and Schwartz are the biggest surprises as Kireider and Schwartz will probably still grow. So will Wahl.... Mackinnon will be high 80's end of this year hopefully. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk
Now at the point where we can compete as we made it to the second round last year with all young guys.
Headed into FA (haven't done anything since last update) and looked at the FA's, only one who was attractive was Jonathan Toews. Sent him an offer of what he wanted and... HE ACCEPTED! Jonny Toews and Mackinnon are our two centers... That's niceeee Also signed depth forward Brandon Kozun, 3 stars yellow and 80 overall so he will go to low 80's which is good enough for 3rd line. Gave up a 3rd rounder as compensation but traded a crappy minor leaguer for a 3rd so it evened out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk
Changed my surplus due to the fact I have a ton of rookies and sophomores that I have no space for so I put on the block I'm looking for, but moving young guys. AHL was stacked with talent so I offered this trade to Boston.
To Calgary: 2nd Round Pick To Boston: Lance Bouma I probably lose this but Bouma was taking roster space from guys like Toffoli who will be better than him. To sign Kozun and Toews I had to make a trade to free up some roster space too as he would've been AHL fourth line... To Calgary: 3rd Round Pick To Boston: Gaelan Patterson Replaces the third for Kozun. After adjusting the block above, I got a bunch of trade offers for my prospects and accepted them all but adjusted one. To CGY: Oscar Lindberg To NYR: B. Wood Wood was a 3rd line AHLer with potential but he stuck behind a logjam of young defenders. Lindberg gives me more AHL scoring depth and is young so he'll progress nicely with Barkov, Domi, Bozon, Sutter and Toffoli. They originally offered me some other guy but Lindberg was a better player and our needs and wants matched. To CGY: Butcher 3rd Round Pick To TB: J. Brossoit They were offering me another lesser prospect but I wanted Butcher as he would be in the CHL and not AHL/NHL so that cleared roster space. I also have 3 3rd rounders which I can move to move up or for a roster player in a bigger deal. I had like 6 goalies so I had to move someone and I'd rather play Fucale/Hjalmarsson than him as they are younger but same potential. Very happy with these deals and through 6 games.. Calgary Flames: 6-0-0 Goals: Backlund 5, Kreider 5 Assists: Schwartz 9 Stalock is on fire too... Toews has 10 points, Schwartz has 10 points as they lead the league and Schwartz leads the league in assists with 9. Solid secondary scoring as Nemisz on our fourth line has 3 or 4 goals and Wahl on our 3rd has 3 or 4. Rebuild is no more. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk
I realized that I had depth at goaltending, but they were all 3 1/2 yellow stars. Even though I had Irving and Stalock turn into mid 80's with 3 1/2 yellows, I decided I wanted a guy who could be elite and found Jack Campbell on the block. After two failed trade attempts this went through:
To CGY: Jack Campbell Matej Stransky To DAL: Lars Hjalmarsson (3 1/2 yellow, 67 overall, last year's second rounder) Roman Horak (Depth Forward) TB's 3rd from above trade Buffalo's 2nd from above trade ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S15, S16, S22 Challenge Cup Champion
BACHMAN IS BETTER. I'm srs, Campbell might be higher overall but Bachman is a tank
![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk Quote:Originally posted by Buster@Dec 29 2012, 11:46 AM I know, but we're in 2015 and Bachman is leading the league so no way I could acquire him. I got Campbell who will eventually be sick AND I got the Task of completing a trade off the block ![]() Also, Edmonton kept offering me Oscar Klefbom (who I like) for Janne Virtanen and an unsigned prospect. I kept saying no cause Virtanen is low overall but has sick potential and will be my first line winger of the future. Then in comes CBJ with a trade offer! To CGY: Boone Jenner (**** yellow) To CBJ: Brett Kulak (** /2 yellow) Depth 2 and half stars dman (6th dman in AHL) for Boone Jenner who will be my third line center in the NHL? HELL YA. 71 overall right now for Jenner but a year of NHL and 4 stars he'll be low 80's in a year or two, perfect young depth player, maybe more. Easy to fill Kulak's hole with all my shitty prospects that were scratched ![]() After start 10-0, we have fallen and sit at 26-21-6 BUT Toews is leading the league in goals with 26 and Schwartz is leading the league with 44!! Top line is OP right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || Still Drunk Quote:Originally posted by gee gee no re@Dec 29 2012, 12:58 PM I saw they had sent him down after a trade and was planning to trade for him at the deadline, but I got him really cheap. btw, edited previous post with record guiez. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S15, S16, S22 Challenge Cup Champion
Meh, having an elite goalie is overrated. I've won 4 cups in 7 years with Ottawa using Anderson for 1 and Lehner for the other 3

Here are the lines after the all star break and recent trades
Kreider (84) Toews (90) Schwartz (85) Backlund (86) Mackinnon (79) Rattie (73) Kozun (80) Jenner (71) Wahl (81) Marcotte (56) Bancks (73) Nemisz (75) Del Zotto (85) Brodie (84) Reinhart (71) Pouliot (68) Pysyk (74) McIlrath (76) Stalock (85) Irving (83) AHL: Lindberg (71) Barkov (60) Domi (66) Toffoli (75) Sutter (65) Bozon (66) Ferland (70) Bredo (58) Torok (56) Gordon (59) Vasko (61) Hall (63) Harrington (71) Wotherspoon (67) Zadorov (61) Sieloff (62) Leach (62) R. Mackinnon (56) Campbell (76) Fucale (60) NHL roster is stacked with young prospects who the majority of should be in the 80's next season and AHL I have Lindberg who is 3 1/2 stars, Barkov who is 4, Domi who is 4, Torok who is 3 1/2, Toffoli who is 4, Sutter who is 3 1/2 and Bozon who is 3 1/2. Then Harrington who is 4, Wotherspoon is 3 but progressing nicely anyways. Very happy with the roster but a logjam of prospects so I'm moving some out as we go to bring in new ones/2 for 1. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
