Buffalo Sabres Be A GM
#31

Sooo we really started struggling post deadline. But that's good for the rebuild. Playoffs are about to begin so I sent Huberdeau and Girgensons back to the A for tha AHL Playoffs. Anyway's we are tied for last in the league but Anaheim currently holds the first. Maybe we win lotto idk Tongue ....

Some bright spots in the season.

Nathan Gerbe's 65 points, really developed into a top six forward this season. Not sure what I am going to do with him going forward though.

Jonathan Huberdeau 11 goals 49 points. He missed 12 games though so we might be looking at a Nuge situation for the Calder. Haven't really looked at how other rookies but idk Tongue.

Grigorenko and Girgs getting top six minutes will be a huge step for their developement.

Acquiring Galchenyuk from the Canadiens.

Another top 5 pick.

Not a lot else in terms of good this season other than the fact that I think we've developed our player's well and hopefully that will show at the beginning of next season.

AHL Playoffs:

Swept first round against Rivermen

Won in 5 games in 2nd round against OKC

Won in 5 games in 3rd round against Charlotte

Swept in Final to Syracuse :(

Huberdeau led playoff scoring by 8 points over the next closest guy. Also had 3 goals more then the 2nd place guy in goal scoring.

I hate trading reduced price in these types of games because it makes the game so damn boring lol

EDIT: only time I would do that is if they are the one offering

EDIT: I didn't want Ekblad/McDavid so good, that's why I had meant to edit them pre game. But I guess it benefits me Tongue

FUCK, draft time and I new I forgot to do something before setting up sim. I forgot to edit McDavid/Ekblad from being 5 star greens... Well that fucking sucks but whatever. Anyway's I won the draft and selected Ekblad, decision was easy, I am loaded @ centre and don't have as much depth @ defence going forward. Ekblad should develop into a top two defender so I am happy with that Smile . (btw everytime I fucking sim the Ducks get McDavid, I have no idea why that is but it happens  )

Anyway's I traded away all my picks this year from rounds 2-4.. So I drafted a big 6'4 (** G) Brendan Burke. I doubt he will develop into any more then an AHL player so don't have much hope in the pick. Never got a player to become a NHL player passed round 5 so I won't mention the rest Tongue ....

Anyway's got some players resigned just before free agency. The ones released don't really matter either way Tongue ....

DEVELOPMENT:

Huberdeau-85-88
Shinkaruk 77-86
Girgensons 85-85
Galchenyuk 73-81
Grigorenko 78-81
Mrazek 63-72
Frk 57-61
Teravainen 55-60

EDIT: Ekblad is 74 overall and will spend the year in juniors

I'll start free agency later today probably.

Ok, sorry about that break boys. I think this recap of the events that went on in the off season will make fans of this happy though Tongue . Ok so I just did Free Agency and I had 3 signings of note.

(80) Tommy Kristiansen: A Norwegian forward with a sick wrist/slap shot. I can probably play him on my third line and give him PP time/PK time. He has a pretty weird player build. All his shot types are in the high 80's with his wrist shot power 94. He also has 90 passing 93 hand eye and 92 deking. Along with 99 body checking yet he is only 80 overall even though he is solid defensively. Its probably because he is not a very good skater. I think 2.25 (x3) is a awesome price for a player like this. I am hoping for a 30 + point season for him. I don't see him developing a ton more but I am very pleased with the kind of player he is now

(77) Jonathan Ericsson: I think he will be a great 6th/7th defenceman for us this year. He is pretty sick defensively especially @ 1.5 million (x2)

(74) Mikko Kousa: A player that I have had get to around 80-82 overall before for me. Will need a season or two in the AHL before he becomes a 5-6 NHL dman (hopefuly) (755 k x3)

First off Tuebert was offer sheeted for 2.75 million. I would of got a 2nd in return for him from Montreal and thought I could get more (Tuebert does not have a huge future with the club, he could play top 6 minutes atm but sooner or later will be shipped out because of Pysyk and Ekblad). So I went back to Montreal and saw if they would raise their offer a tad, and it worked.

TO BUF
Montreal 2015 1st

TO MON
(79)Colten Tuebert

(Game got mad at me for trading Tuebert away so recently after signing him but whatever, it was basically a sign and trade Tongue )

Now the next deal is quite a bit bigger. I believe this year I will really need to make a push for the playoffs if I want to stay with the Sabres as their GM (which I absolutely do because so far this has been pretty fun Tongue). I realized looking my team over that a big NHL need was a starting goalie, I looked through some teams rosters and thought Ondrej Pavelec would be a perfect fit, first he could be the starter for the next 2-3 year while mentoring in country mate Petr Mrazek after next year. I went to Winnipeg and got a deal done.

TO BUF
(84)Ondrej Pavelec

TO WPG

(**1/2) Jerome Gauthier Leduc
(** 1/2) Daniel Catenacci
2015 BUF 3rd
2016 BUF 3rd

Some of you might think I didn't make a good deal here but I firmly believe I did. JGL and Catenacci will probably have no chance at being day to day NHL players. IMO They can be top guys for the AHL club maybe 2-3 years down the road. The two thirds was the harder of the deal to give up because my first two season I have been finding players with good chances of playing in the NHL in the third round.

I just saw my lines and they are pretty good, good enough to start both Galchenyuk and Grigorenko in the AHL this year. I still didn't have room for some players in my lines so decided to make a coupld more deals

TO PIT
(79) Steve Ott

TO BUF
PIT 2nd round pick

Current lines in first post Smile

Nice deals. I like the Tommy signing as well.

In real life, I'd have a really hard time trading away Cat, but in-game, he kind of sucks.

15-13-4 through 32 games for 34 points. I like where we are. We have amazing depth all throughout our lines since we have the depth to play Vanek on our 3rd line and Brown on our forth lines (both are available)...Pavelec has been injured for quite a few games but he is 8-4 in the games he has played in so I am very happy with him thus far..Thinking of trading Enroth for something but not quite sure what yet...

Anyway's expect another sim later Smile ...

Your D could use some more depth imho, but you are getting a great group of Forwards together, looking forward to what that team can do Wink

What OC said. I'd look to move Weber and Adam/Stafford for a defensive upgrade, then pick up a grinding 4th liner.

Btw Teravainen is crap in terms of development and so is Barkov more or less. They progress REALLY slowly.

Team is currently 32-27-9 for 73 points. We are currently in 6th in the East.

Ok so 3 days before deadline. Team is getting defence injuries all over the place with Gorges/McNabb and more. I might of rushed myself into this deal and it may look bad but the player I get (at least on the defensive side) has very good value to him. Dustin Brown has not been preforming all season, I guess a big part of that is him playing in my bottom six but he's still getting PP time and still isn't doing much (5 goals, 12 assists)

TO BUF
(78 ****)Erik Gudbranson

TO FLA
(83) Dustin Brown

This deal was made for a few reasons. Obviously I am hoping Gudbranson reaches his full potential but it doesn't look likely. Gubranson has more value then Brown did however and if I it doesn't work out I can deal him for a better return. Their was really no use in having Brown play on the 4th line when he is clearly a top six player but I had him there because I had better players. Brown had a good first season in Buffalo but even last season with top six minutes he only had 35 points.

Will likely finish season tonight.

EDIT: Claiming (75) Joe Corvo off of waivers so that helps a bit.

In my game it has been pretty easy to get a D full of 80's, especially with Buffalo and their starting corps... Is this not possible with your team? I'm just wondering as you have been playing with not just one or two, but three players with less than 80 Overall in your Starting-Six... Not even to mention what had to come up do to injuries (who did you use as replacements btw.?)

Not sure what i think about your deal, because I don't know how Gudbranson usually develops. But it doesn't look too bad.

When Injuries came I had Kousa come up and play. He was mostly a filler and didn't hurt the team too bad but it wasn't a very good idea. I went hard after some good Dmen in the off-season but only ended up really geting Eriksson. This season is hopefully the last I will have to deal with a bad defence since both Pysyk and Ekblad should be 80+

Ok end of season write up.

Team finished 42-30-10 for 92 points. In our last two games before the play-offs we lost two top line players. Huberdeau was lost for 3 weeks so he was expected to be out the first round + ...I then lost Girgensons the following game for 2 months. My chances at the cup this season were stopped when both those events happened. We faced Philly in the first round after finishing 3rd in the East (Philly actually was only 2 points back of us by seasons end so it wasn't like we were huge favourites even with Huberdeau/Girgs)...

We were swept 4-0..

Bryzgalov completely shut the door every game (<lol) allowing 5 goals in the 4 games. With Hubedeau/Grigs gone it really destroyed our team. If I could go back I would of definitely traded for a couple of depth wingers but I didn't think I would need them.

(Just looked back and also lost Shinkaruk half way through the series, ouch)

So stat leaders for the season. (I thought you guys might want them so here they are only doing the important ones)

Hunter Shinkaruk-39-35-74 (4 PM)
Jonathan Hubedeau-13-40-61
Zemgus Girgensons-17-44-61 (146 pms lol)
Tyler Myers-10-35-45
Tommy Kristiansen 10-24-34 (Yay, 4 points over what I was hoping for)
Galchenyuk (30 gms)-7-18-25

Ondrej Pavelec-34-21-4

Oh, I guess I turned off GM firing. Guess thats a good thing, wouldn't want this series ending so quickly Tongue ...

Ok so I am covering the our big 4 picks. All these players are 3 1/2 stars. (first real year with computer generated players)

(15th) Cedric Christiansen D : Another Norwegian player. He is supposed to be a "tough guy" and he intrigued me while drafting. Hopefully he develops into a defensive rock who fights a lot  .He's 6'6 and 253

(24th) Pascal Lemieux LW: This is one of the weirdest picks I have ever had. To start he has the last name Lemieux (maybe thats not that weird but the rest sure is) his number is 66 he is 6'5 and 210 pounds and a playmaker. Looking him over he's already 74 overall. Hope he keeps developing.

(48th) Milan Sedlak DFD : Another defensive rock I drafted to give me depth on the defensive side. Hopefully he can become a 80-82 defenceman and give me depth. He's still quite a few years away from being an NHL player (if he ever becomes one)

(54th) Tero Rintanen C : Another skilled Fin player to add to the team, again a few years away but I think he can be another good player to add to the team going forward.

A thing you will notice about my drafting since we are past the first few initial seasons is that I tend to favour players playing over seas. The reasoning is because a lot of them are able to come over right away and play for my AHL team, which usually for me increases their development quite a bit faster.

Hoping to get the rest of the off-season done tonight also Smile

Few big moves in resigning players. First the goalies. Resigned Enroth but plan on trading him right after so (77)Mrazek can become the backup. So far the goaltending plan is going right according to schedule (lets hope Pavelec doesn't go down to injury early in the season like last year). The only other huge big resigning was Girgensons and I got him done at just under 6 million.

PLAYER DEV: At the end of Season 3

Huberdeau 88-89
Shinkaruk 86-88
Girgensons 85-87
Grigorenko 81-86
Galchenyuk 81-85
Gudbranson 78-79 (Fuck, was hoping for a bigger boost)
Pysyk 74-78
Ekblad 74-76 (Not just hoping for a bigger boost, I was expecting one)
Teravainen 60-63
Springer 53-58
Frk 61-65

Again Free Agency will be in another post, hopefully soon. Hoping I can get lots done this offseason.

EDIT: Since I think some of you may care to know the award winners I will post some. The Cup winners are weird AF.

Stanley Cup:
12/13 Toronto Maple Leafs
13/14 Florida Panthers
14/15 Carolina Hurricanes

Calder
12/13 Simon Despres
13/14 Sven Bartschi
14/15 Josh Morrisey (<Lol wut should of been Shinkaruk)

Maurice Richard
12/13 Alexander Ovechkin
13/14 Alexander Ovechkin
14/15 Joshua Ho Sang (< Weird lol)

Art Ross
12/13 Evgeni Malkin
13/14 Alexander Ovechkin
14/15 Sidney Crosby
