EASTERN EUROPE vs. CANADA.

S41 World Junior Championship GOLD MEDAL FINAL.

Olympiahalle Arena.

Innsbruck, Austria.

Eastern Europe, or UCORCAL, finished 1st in the Round Robin, going 6-3-1 for 13 points.

Canada finished 2nd in the Round Robin, going 6-3-1 for 13 points.

They played each other twice. A 4-3 Canada win and a 3-2 Eastern Europe win. Eastern Europe won the group because of their goal differential. A +7 vs. Canada's +3.

They went 5-0 at home. They are the home team tonight.

Canada beat the British Isles 6-2, while Eastern Europe beat Scandinavia 5-0 after both teams earned byes.

Alex Andani of Team Eastern Europe wins the opening faceoff.

The puck drops back to Kevin Maddox, who sends it across to his partner, Mikhail Petrikov. Petrikov completes a pass up to Alex Andani but it's intercepted by Carter Manning, who quickly loses the puck.

Both teams are playing a little nervous. Turnover after turnover, it seems like forever until a team gets a shot on net.

Finally, Alex Andani, one of the game's bright spots so far, enters the Canadian zone and loses the puck, but quickly gains it back and acts like HE MEANT TO DO THAT.

He gets to a great position and lets a shot go.

It hits the net and...

HUGE SAVE BY WALTER HOBBS.

The play continues and goes the other way...

Canada enters the neutral zone but gets turned back by a Radovan Hudec poke check.

He sends the puck to Maxim Poulin who loses it for a second, but there is Kristaps Ball to the rescue!

He collects the puck and rushes back towards Walter Hobbs.

Ball dekes once. Dekes twice. THREE TIMES ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

He releases the puck and it goes right through Walter Hobbs!!

The tough Eastern European offense is on fire during this power play, but WALTER HOBBS IS STANDING ON HIS HEAD!

On the other side of the rink, Eastern European goaltender Aleksandr Aleksandrov Jr is bored, until finally Canada gets some offense going half way through the period.

Shot after shot head towards the UCORCAL net but they all fly wide of the net.

Finally, Tony Snow takes a shot that is deflected by Carter Manning, but it wasn't a very hard save to make.

The puck heads back to the Canadian zone and Walter Hobbs makes a few saves of his own.

It's a goalie duel, but Walter Hobbs is the busier one.

It's still 1-0 Eastern Europe with 5 minutes to go in the 1st period.

Charlie Schieck of Canada takes an unfortunate hooking penalty and Eastern Europe's potent PP goes to work.

Cash Savage is controlling the puck in Canada's zone.

He makes a deke to the inside and let's a shot go, which is knocked away by the blocker of Hobbs.

Kristaps Ball collects the rebound with a quick shot back towards the net, but bounces wide off the boards...
