Time to tweak the rules imho, make it so that a team holds a drafted players rights for three seasons no matter if they get him signed or not.

I'm totally fine and aware with the situation we are in, aalthough it's not preferable it doesn't mean it's not manageable.

I have no intention of drafting Storm, but I agree with this.

Actually I thought any other team could sign an RFA. If he doesn't sign a contract, isn't he still technically one? Just have to pay the cost of signing an RFA?

I believe he currently has to re-enter the draft? Or at least someone said that.

<!--QuoteBegin-Da Rulez
Restricted Free Agency
 • </li>
 • There will be five kind of tenders (1st round, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th), all carrying a certain amount of cash as a qualifying offer (5mil for 1st, 4mil for 2nd, etc.).

 • GMs have until free agency opens to tender their RFAs. If they go untendered, they become a UFA. If they are tendered, any team can negotiate with them, but their original team can match any contract agreed to. If they go unsigned by anyone else, they can accept the qualifying offer.

 • Players entering their third season in the league are restricted free agents, thus you need to have 3+ years experience to not be considered an RFA.

I said that. I think that currently is the rule. I guess that's if he never signs an initial contract. Just spitballing, but my suggestion would be to get rid of that part, and just have the team that wants to sign him later pay the RFA price (which I think is just a first rounder).

Quote:Player Rights
-Once drafted, the team who drafts you will have your rights for one whole season. If you refuse to sign, they may trade you. If you do not sign a contract by the end of the season, you will re-enter the draft for next season (so if you get drafted in S7 and hold out until the end, you will enter the S8 draft).

Not sure whether this supersedes the rules regarding RFAs. Would have to hear from a commish as to whether drafted players are RFAs in their first season or if they're in a special protected status for the first season.

If they're not treated differently in their first year, they would be RFAs in their first season, and would need to tender him to keep him. They could then match any contract offered by NEW, which (I presume) he wouldn't sign, forcing him to wait until the end of the season.

So not only would the other team's GM have to snipe him in the draft, they'd also have to tender him, then choose to match NEW's offer. Basically, it would be a level of dickery that would merit very little defense.

Problem is it makes more sense to attempt that rather than an draft an inactive.
