12:00 – 1st Period

Longford takes a shot off the draw, blocked by Biscuit! The puck squirts free to Goode, and Schmidt blockers it away. Longford grabs the rebound and tries for a wraparound, but Schmidt dives over to smother the puck. There’s a scrum in the crease, with Sasha Alexei Smirnov and Ales Smirnov getting feisty. Ales tries to take out Sasha’s shin, and the ref calls him for Slashing.

Ratzon winds up for a drive, Koroviev gets his stick on it but Schmidt was in good position to make the save! The Platoon break up ice shorthanded and Thomaz has a shot gloved down by Aittokallio.

Dying seconds of the powerplay, and Schmidt snags a shot from Koroviev as Ales Smirnov exits the sin bin! Tony Flow brings the puck up ice and he gets rocked by Longford. Smirnov picks up the loose puck but Muller bumps him into the boards. The biscuit finds Flow again, but no sooner does he collect the puck when Windsor delivers another huge hit!

It’s been a rough, physical game so far, with both goalies making some key stops! No goals to speak of so far, we could be in for another close game like yesterday.

Pettyfer with it now, and Aittokallio kicks the shot aside. Thomaz finds the rebound, but sends it wide of the open net! The crowd groans in frustration.

Edmonton with some offensive pressure now, and Goody has a shot blocked by Wert. He gets the puck back, but his next shot is tipped wide. JRT hops on the loose disc, but Gibbs puts his body on the line! It bounces back to Goody, he shoots! PING! He finds iron and the puck bounces out of the Platoon zone.

Theo Kane sets up a shot, and it takes a bounce off Ratzon’s leg and off Schmidt’s chest! Ratzon finds the rebound but Gibbs throws himself between the puck and the net, saving a sure goal! The Platoon are putting on a shot-blocking clinic tonight!

JRT carries the puck into the West Kendall zone and rips a low shot wide. Kane feeds it back to him, but Schmidt punches it away! Scholz jumps on the rebound but Schmidt gloves it down to freeze play. Kane wins the faceoff back to Goody, who finds Kane immediately. A SHOT AND A GOAL!!!!!

Big Z wins the defensive zone faceoff and springs Pettyfer on a breakaway! Pettyfer fakes the shot, then rips one high glove, PICKED OFF BY AITTOKALLIO! Key save by the Finn at the end of the period to preserve the lead.

Both teams skate out the final minute, and Edmonton takes a 1-0 lead to the locker room as the horn sounds to end the period. The opening frame was all Blizzard, as they outshot the home Platoon 16-5.
