SHL - S27 - Game 6 - TEX Vs. CGY

”... WE STAND ON GUARD FOOOOOOOORR THE’EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!”

The puck is dropped and we are on our way in this one. Kinsler wins the puck straight bac- OH! And he gets upended on the face-off by Esa. There’s no penalty here, but Vladimir Lidstrom did not take kindly to his captain getting leveled and he’s going after Esa now. But Jalopski is skating over and getting Lidstrom’s attention. And they’re gonna go folks!

If this isn’t the moment you’ve been waiting for all series than you can just leave now.

Vliddy and Jalopski start to circle each other, shedding their equipment and sizing the other one up. Vliddy tries to get in the first shot but get knocked away by Jalopski. Steven counters but his fist is off target. Vliddy tags Jalopski when he’s off target, and the two grab each other.

Jalopski manages to get the better grab and he starts giving it to Lidstrom. First an upper cut then a couple of rights. Lidstrom is firing back but he can’t make contact. Another upper cut from Jalopski. And another right. And he hit him with a left he just wasn’t expecting. Jalopski is really taking it to Lidstrom and the Texas defender cannot keep up as Jalopski puts down a right that sends him to the ice.

And now he’s got him in a leg lock? I thought this was a hockey game? Jalopski is making a mockery of Lidstrom out there. And the crowd is enjoying every minute of it.

When all is said and done, 5 minutes for fighting to both Jalopski and Lidstrom. To the chagrin of the Renegades, no extra penalty for Esa’s hit.

The second lines come out and Alex Mack wins the puck over Horvat. Bronson Zerchai brings the puck down ice and takes it into the offensive zone, where the Renegades defense is quick to force a giveaway. But the forcheck of the Dragons makes Tsizling ice the puck and the Renegades stay out for the next faceoff.

Horvat is able to win the puck over Schnitinfritz Jagr and Texas moves in the neutral zone. Now they’re into Calgary ice and Horvat fires the puck, but it’s over the cross bar. Wong never even had to make a move.

Now VLAD McZehrl has the puck and he wants to do something with it. He’s got a head of steam coming the other way and shoots on Weekes, some Renegades are on a line change so this could be bad.

But he can’t hit the net either.

The Carl Mountain has the puck behind his net and gets it to Kinsler who is able to take it out of the Renegade’s zone. Texas looks to make a dump and chase, but the Calgary defense gets to the puck first and moves it out. Sachimo Zoidberg is joining the rush now, but he can’t hold the line and they whistle blows for an off-sides.

Let’s catch up with Steven Jalopski in the penalty box, shall we?

This guy…

Four and a half minutes into the game and so far only one shot on net by either team. Weekes made a save on Pederson. It was nice. I clapped.

Texas has the puck in enemy territory. Tsizling is holding it along the half wall when Zoidberg comes barrling in. Chara B. picks up the lose puck and keeps the attack alive for Texas. He passes it to Geoffrey Allen who chips it wide.

Wyatt Walker pinches and is able to collect the loose puck. He fires, but he can’t get it in front of the post. It bounces off the back of the net and onto Liam Kinsler’s stick. Kins tries to spin around and back hand it in close to the net but the puck shoots off his stick and onto a Dragons defender, springing the home team back up ice.

Randleman has the puck. He outlets it to McZ. Mc Z fires!

But Weekes is strong and holds onto the puck. Jalopski and Lidstrom are back on their respective benches.

Ten minutes pass without much to say. Texas holds a 6 to 5 shot differential. Calgary has four hits to Texas’ two. With no hits in the last ten minutes this game is not looking like the physical death match one would expect after the electrifying fight to start the game.

The Renegades have the puck and drop it in for a line change, bringing out their top line. And on that top line was none other than the Rene’s captain and top hitting forward, Liam Kinsler. Kins came out of the bench ready to hit someone and he makes sure to get himself into the puck carrier. The whistle immediately blows and both teams start their chirping back up.

Kinsler gets escorted to the box as Calgary is able to get the first Power Play of the game.

Pederson muscles Travis Kudleychuk off of the puck in the dot. Labsvārds steps into a slapper that hits Weekes right on the crest. He hugs the puck and we’re back to the face-off dot.

Pederson wins again. This time it is Jalopski who shoots the puck on Weekes. And again Weekes is able to cover it up.

Pederson cannot get the hat trick as Ignant Ogorodnikov is able to secure the puck and Texas gets their first clear knocking some valuable time off the clock.

A minute is gone in the man advantage by the time Calgary gets into their formation. Zoidberg fires, but only to be stopped cold again by Mr. Weekes.
#24

Kudleychuk loses another draw and the Power Play is looking to capitalize.

Hill shoots!

Blocked by Allen.

Boychuk!

Palat steps in the way.

Randy Randleman?

Hits the post!

Hill again!

Wide.

Back to Boychuk!

Off the blocker of Weekes!

Randy misses the net. The PP is over but Calgary is still cooking.

Jalopski!

Cannot shoot around The Mountain and Texas is finally able to take the pressure off. The period ends with Calgary getting on a roll and taking an 11 to 6 lead in shots into the second period. Weekes has looked hot for Texas, while Wong has done everything he’s needed to. Jalopski has taken the Rene’s words the heart and looks like a man on a mission as he beat down Lidstrom to start the period, then finished it with five shots on net!

Texas will need to regroup with the time off they have right now.

The excitement of the end of that first period has subsided. Just over 6 minutes of play and Hunter Wong may as well have given himself some extra time in the locker room as the Texas offense has done nothing as of yet. Calgary has managed to put two shots on Weekes, but he’s not given up a rebound yet and Texas has taken the majority of face-off wins in their end to help him out.

Brandon Gibbon is out for his first shift of the game. The few Texas fans who made it to the game are on their feet cheering for the team’s most beloved player.
#28

Gibbon is going to take the draw.

And he manages to win it over Esa! Don’t you love a good underdog story?

Look, even Jalopski is going over to congradul- OH NO! WHY?!?!

OUT OF NOWHERE! Jalopski just ruined Gibbon not even one second into his playing time this game. Alexandersen smartly ices the puck to let Gibbon regain his bearings.

The veteran Renegade is still rattled and loses the puck battle. But Texas clogs the shooting lanes and eventually Calgary gives the puck up and Texas finds themselves on the offensive.

Jed Lloren shoots the puck, but it falls behind the net.

Gibbon is able to pick it up though. He takes it wide and lifts a low angle shot toward Wong who can just kick it away. Texas passes around and Lloren shoots again, this time Wong makes the glove save and holds onto it.

Good shift Gibby. See you next year.

Wish I could promote this more but I gotta go to work :(

In the next nine minutes Texas cannot do a thing. They haven’t registered a shot on goal, but on the bright side Weekes has been able to keep them in with three more saves.

The bad news?

A Brojled penalty for interference.
