Woah! There's a bustle in the crowd as a surprise shot from Austin Roenick catches Pride goalie Chris Partridge on the back foot.

The play didn't arise from consistent pressure by the Rage, but rather from solid instincts from the Manhattan winger. He came within centimeters of giving his team an early lead.

At around the seven minute mark, Tokek Takshak manages to sneak behind the Manhattan defense and close in on net.

He doesn't waste any time in releasing the puck, with a clear sight on goal!

But Larson is up to the task! You can't fault Tokshak, the wrister was on target. But the glove swept in with miliseconds to spare and kept it out of the top-left corner.

Important save by the Rage keeper.

At 8:35 of the 1st, the San Francisco Pride put on a clinic in... missing the net?

Steven Moyer takes the first shot, an opportunistic strike resulting from a scramble in front that had the Manhattan D on its heels.

Next is Ray Bork, who breaks his stick on his shot, which goes harmlessly wide.

Two seconds later, a failed Rage clearing attempt lands the puck on Steven Moyer's stick, but he fails to make up for his earlier miss and shanks it into the corner.

Finally, Charlie Schieck collects the puck and looks to blast one on net! ...Only to land the puck on the far side of goal and watch as it skids along the boards and out of the zone.

There was a lot of frantic movement there by Manhattan's defense, but they really could've just sat and chilled for a while. San Francisco appears to be its own worst enemy.

And now it's time for a social media round-up.

We return to action with some slick movement by the Pride in the neutral zone. A shot by Richard Metcalf Jr. hits the outside of the net, and the puck careens off the boards to Charlie Schieck, who does a give-and-go with Ray Bork to get into a prime scoring position.

His shot finds the shin of a Rage defender, but it bounces out to a prime position for a rebound, and Larson's out of position!

Wow! Can you believe it? That puck did not cross the line!

Larson may have been out of position, but he just managed to get across with his stick to keep it out.

Despite the goal light flashing and the horn sounding, further review confirms that it's not a goal.

...

Despite the part-congratulatory, part-apologetic stick taps from his defense, Peter Larson is livid. He's screaming at the Manhattan bench to help him out, as the Pride are putting pressure on their opponents that simply isn't being matched.

That's more like it!

David Kastrba is putting pressure on the point as the puck is slid to an open Dominic Montgomery.

But he bobbles the reception, and Kastrba takes his chance to level him and clear the zone.

There's a visible reaction from the Manhattan bench, and you can see Montgomery take Kastrba's number as he skates off for a change.

And another one.

Andrej Doskocil, perhaps feeling somewhat culpable for his team's slow start on account of his early penalty, lines up Ray Bork as the Pride defenseman carries the puck into the Manhattan zone.

Two solid hits in the span of two minutes. They may not be where they want to be in terms of scoring chances, but the Rage are upping the tempo here late in the first.
