The horn sounds and another period in the books, this one scoreless. It has been an insane game so far, not a lot of chances and some great defensive plays, but even better saves by both netminders. Shots this period were 11 for the USA and 5 for Germany as Germany holds onto the 1-0 lead.

The third period is about to go underway here in a grueling 1-0 gold medal match, with Germany on top. Cain has stopped 26 of 27 shots so far but is being outdueled by Blue who has stopped 20 of 20 that the USA squad has sent his way. The teams line up for the faceoff. Pedersen Jr. wins it and the US team takes control.

2 minutes in and only 2 shots so far, the USA team breaks out of their zone. Serpe dumps the puck in and the team chases. Pedersen Jr. gets there first, is held to the boards by Knurtsson. Kurczewski digs for the puck and comes up with it. He sends it up high to Serpe. Serpe looks, fakes a clapper and passes back to Kurczewski. He shoots!

Nearly five minutes in and Germany has possession in their zone. Darrow moves the puck to Koenig. Mauldin comes streaking into the zone and knocks Koenig over and steals the puck. He skates wide and shoots!

Gotze has possession in the USA zone. 15 more minutes and the gold medal returns to Germany. Gotze floats it on net… Serpe got in the lane and it bounces to the corner. McZehrl grabs the loose puck and sends it out front, Pepperoni wide open and shovels a shot!

8 minutes into the third and USA has possession in the German zone. Moore rings it around the boards and it's picked up by Carter. Carter shoots it from the half boards towards the net. Kurczewski gets a tip on it and changes its direction!!
