With the update scale how it is you don't need depth.
Just play your best players a shit ton and you have an advantage over teams trying to roll lines.

Obviously you need high end players to play a shit ton tho
I think NEW and CGY's recent Cup runs provide significant evidence that depth is important

Their top end players is the reason not the depth but I wouldn't expect a dummy that offers Murray+Milano for Duchene to understand that

unreal that Rage win the cup with so little depth, especially going 12-2 or some shit in the process

12-0-2

Top end players playing well win games? That's an interesting theory Alex..

There's no reason that depth can't be the answer for those Cup wins. Star power and depth aren't mutually exclusive.

To give a bit of a personal standpoint on this, it was even said in the stream quite often that the main reason we could run like this was people weren't matching their lines well. Nobody played us defensively, and once your defense is steady and can withstand top end players, we go limp. Portland had that and managed to take us to 6 games and most of them were very close, I believe 3 overtime games and a 1-goal game in there.

So yes, depth can be important, but so can top end talent. Overall, it's what you do with the talent you have that makes the difference.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.
