3. Calgary Dragons , Sachimo Zoidberg 2 (Krišs Labsvārds, Alex Mack) at 10:52 (PP)

The first of the game for the Dragons, and the Saddledome is rocking! People had been on their phones, or heading for the concessions stand to drown their sorrow in a funnel cake...but not any more! Sure, they're still down a goal, but they got this! Right?

Well, who knows, because I'm pretty sure the entire arena fell asleep for the middle of that period, including and especially the players. There's barely a handful of chances, all of them pretty weak and from bad angles, until rookie Black tries to clear and roofs the puck over the glass instead. Whoops.

Some fan has a cool souvenir now, and the Steelhawks have a penalty to kill. Jagr has an early shot, but Ziepins blocks it before it can even get close. Then the Dragons bring the real pressure: Mack and Zoidberg pass back and forth as they carry the puck over the line, then Zoidberg SHOOTS…

...and it's blocked by Clitsome. A Hawks defensive line change later, Mack is in possession again, he shoots…























...and misses. Grabs his own rebound…
















...and misses again. Zoidberg gets a try after a line change…












...but Tanner says nuh-uh.

THIRD PERIOD

Calgary definitely woke up in that period. The question is, will they stay woke? Or will Hamilton put them to sleep...permanently?

Well, after a couple icings by the Steelhawks, the third faceoff is the charm. Pedersens wins it, passes to Jalopski, who passes to Zoidberg, through traffic to Anrikkanen at the net, he jams it in…

We'd say "Behind you," Tanner, but it's too late.

If you thought the Saddledome was loud before, it's deafening now. This is a tie hockey game, folks! Are the Steelhawks going to smack the Dragons down and win it all? Are the Dragons going to claw their way back to a shot at glory?

Well, the Steelhawks start trying when they realise they've given up a two goal lead. Minute and a half later, Colt comes barrelling down the ice. He hands it off for Simons who SHOOTS…

...and misses. He grabs the rebound and tries again…




















Wong gobbles it up!



It settles down just a little after that...that is, until Colt, desperate to make something happen for his team, gets a liiiiittle slew-foot-y.

What the fuck is wrong with my shots! I better get my shit together!

But it's fine. It's totally fine. There are no shots on goal for the whole first minute of the powerplay. There's a shot right at the halfway point, courtesy of Boychuck, but Tanner stops it like it's nothing.




And then the Dragons get a play established, and the Hawks can't seen to break it up. Boychuck to Anrikkanen to Jalopski to Randleman to Pedersen who SHOOTS…

...and misses the net. But Boychuck gets the rebound and shoots…























...and he SCORES!!

And the Dragons are in the lead for the first time all game! We've got over 13 minutes of hockey left, so it's still anyone's game...but these fans are in it now!

Fast forward a little bit to the end of the ninth minute and wow, Hamilton are bound and determined to tie this thing up again. Clitsome snatches the puck off the stick of Hill, and he passes to Simons, who drops it back for Colt. That line has been dangerous all game, and the minute they're in enemy territory Colt hands it back to Simons who SHOOTS…








and it's blocked by Spiak. Zarins gets the rebound and gives it a try…
















...but he misses too. Tries again, misses again. Then Grundmanis plays fetch, hands it to Clitsome who maybe had the better angle but selflessly passes to Simons...

...and he misses the net.

There's a big line change by both teams, which ends with Calgary in possession. Specifically, Pergher, who passes to Boychuck, to Jagr, back to Pergher, again to Jagr, who SHOOTS…

















...it's off McZherl...




















...and it misses the net. But Jagr grabs his own rebound and gives it another try!

See that? That's Hamilton's hopes for a sweep, whistling right by their heads.

Or is it? Ten minutes is a lot of hockey game. You can score two goals in seventeen seconds if you really try and your mascot is a Hawk.

Key word there, though: big if. In the aftermath of this goal, there are five shots in the next six minutes, and all of them are from Dragons. And then things go from bad to worse:

Calgary doesn't take it easy just because of their lead--they just saw Hamilton piss away their two goal lead, and they aren't taking any chances.

McZherl gets the first shot, off the first faceoff, but Jaks dives in front of it. Mack picks up the rebound…
















...but his shot is blocked by Jaks as well. McZherl gathers the rebound and tries once more…

















...but Tanner won't let his team dig themselves into this hole any deeper than they already are.

The penalty expires without harm to Hamilton, but they've already had their last shot of the game, and Calgary are content to cool their heels for the last few minutes. That's the hockey game, folks. DRAGONS WIN!
