Chicago Cubs Be a GM
#3

Okay, a couple of days after I said it would start, but it is starting.

Even before I started with any games I wanted to swing a deal.

To BAL
=====
CP Carlos Marmol

To CHI
=====
SP Chris Tillman
RF Trayvon Robinson

Now my rationalization: first of all I don't plan on being competitive for 3-5 years and Marmol's deal was ending that offseason (I think). He is already 30 and I may have been able to get more for him at the deadline, but I liked the deal. Tillman is young (25 when 2013 season starts) and has A potential. Robinson was more of a throw in. Plus IRL Marmol scares the shit out of me, he has a great K/9, but his BB/9 is pretty bad, I know it doesn't matter in a game like this, but still.

Now onto the 25 man roster that I used for most of the season. (*=SP in the pen)
SP: Matt Garza (88), Jeff Samardzija (88), Edwin Jackson (82), Travis Wood (82), Carlos Villanueva (81)
RP: Chris Tillman (80)*, Scott Feldman (75)*, Scott Baker (79), Hisanori Takahashi (75), Shawn Camp (73), James Russell (72), Cory Wade (71)
C: Wellington Castillo (76), Dioner Navarro (70)
1B: Anthony Rizzo (79)
2B: Darwin Barney (82), Luis Valbuena (67)
3B: Ian Stewart (66)
SS: Starlin Castro (90)
LF: Alfonso Soriano (86)
CF: Tony Campana (74), David Dejesus (73), Brett Jackson (71)
RF: Scott Hairston (77), Nate Schierholtz (75)

Yeah, not much to say about this group. For the most part this is the group of guys that will play for the Cubs this season, minus the deal I made.

The first eventful thing to happen was the first year player draft.
Round(Overall)
1(2) SP Diego Francisco
2(38) 3B Vernon Balladares
3(68) LF Andres Medrano
4(98) RF Martin Moreno
5(128) 2B Russell Odell
6(158) RP Gary Cooke
7(188) 3B Oliver Urban

Next came the allstar game, I had two representatives, SS Starlin Castro and 1B Anthony Rizzo.

After the season ended I learned that Travis Wood won a Gold Glove, at least something came of this season. My leaders were:

AVG: David Dejesus .296 (466 AB)
H: Starlin Castro 175
HR: Alfonso Soriano/Anthony Rizzo 22
RBI: Anthony Rizzo 89
SB: Tony Campana 37
W: Garza/Samardzija 10
ERA: Feldman 2.16 (25 IP)
SV: Russell 10 (6 players had saves for me in the season)
K: Samardzija 139

The Tigers beat the Reds for the World Series title, and my offseason was pretty quiet. I drafted C Angeo Hidalgo in the Rule 5 Draft and Signed SP AJ Burnett and SP Ted Lilly to fill out my bullpen for next season.

Speaking of next season, that should be up either tonight or tomorrow.
