Day 25 Prospect Tournament – Bravo Champions (10) def. Echo Ofthevoids (8)

Tournament exhaustion plagued both teams’ defensive play on day 25 resulting in a high scoring affair between the Bravo Champions and Echo Ofthevoids. Squid Actual (Burden, Svenson) opened the scoring with a controversial rebound goal that went to video review for possible goalie interference. The goal was ultimately confirmed after a lengthy review, resulting in a short delay as fights and a minor riot broke out in the crowd (18 arrests and 2 casualties). Veikko Vatippa (Hellqist) scored his second of the tournament just under 2 minutes later on a smooth wrist shot. After a flurry of activity by the Echo Ofthevoids, Danny White (Walter II) broke free on a breakaway and made no mistake of finishing with a beautiful deke after a slick stretch pass Walter II. Echo Ofthevoids heavy pressure continued, culminating with a blast of slapshot by Miro Slapskinnen (Cuddles, Grygera). Bravo Champions immediately responded with a beautiful tic tac passing play that left a wide-open Sven Svenson (Ubetcha, Burden) all alone with a gaping net. Walter II (White) and Danny White continued to demonstrate their sublime chemistry in the dying minute of the 1st period with a back and forth passing play goal for Walter on a 2 on 1 chance. The period ended with Bravo Champions holding a commanding 5-1 lead over Echo Ofthevoids.

Echo Ofthevoids came out strong after the break and their hard work paid off with Shlapp Shaht (Outlaw, Yskarov) finding the back of the net on a fluttering slap shot that went off a defensemen’s midsection. The Bravo Champions’ Jack Kanoff (Telker, MacGregor) showed his knack for scoring 3 minutes later with a five-hole goal from the slot. The goal ended Echo Ofthevoids’ Ryan Aaron’s night, who finished with 21 saves on 27 shots. The goaltending change energized Echo Ofthevoids and Slapskinnen (Wartooth, Grygera) and Shaht (Khristorozhdestvensk, Yskarov) both scored their second of the night within a minute and half of each other. Danny White (Walter II) responded only 30 seconds later in the pairs third combined goal of the night. Zoltan Topalo (Grygero, Slapskinnen) made an out-of-this world play for his first of the tournament to pull Echo Ofthevoids within two. Bravo Champions’ Jack Kanoff (Burden) (Svenson, Burden) was hungry for more goals and scored back-to-back one-timer blasts to complete the hat trick on great passing plays from Burden and Svenson. At the end of the period, Jonathan Blair (Steen, Ohira) banged one home on a rebound in the crease. The second period ended with Bravo Champions holding a 9-6 lead over Echo Ofthevoids.

The first half of the third period showed the fatigue of these young players, with both teams opting to grind out a dump and chase style defensive scheme. Echo Ofthevoid carried the play after the 10-minute mark, showing grit and desperation in making plays to try to close the gap. Gregory Stiemsa (Yskarov, Outlaw) made it a two-goal game on a nice dish to the middle from Yskarov. Tomas Grygera (Slapskinnen, Price) put even more pressure on the Bravo Champions a minute later on a redirection from a hard slap pass from Slapskinnen. However, the Bravo Champions were not willing to let this one slip away. Budding Swedish star Sven Svenson (Burden, Kuzel) cemented the lead with his second of the night and possibly the goal of the tournament. After a great breakout pass from Burden, Svenson dangled past two Echo Ofthevoids defensemen on a toe drag and went backhand forehand to find the twine in tight space. Svenson’s efforts earned him the first star of the night. Burden’s 5 assist night was good for the second star and Danny White’s 2 goal 1 assist performance curiously was good for third star, beating out Jack Kanoff’s hat trick performance. Allen Washington got the win for the Bravo Champions making 33 saves on 41 shots.
