I don't think people are being sensationalist, I'd argue the opposite actually in that others are downplaying the effects of this quite a bit. "Not including milestones" is a pretty popular phrase in this thread, but... why exactly aren't they? Milestones absolutely should be included in this calculation, maybe some things will change about them in the future, but as it stands they still count against the cap and are usually one of the main tasks at the very end of the season that are affected by the Cap. People with successful milestone seasons could make around 50 TPE a season if it weren't for the cap. And since careers nowadays are closer to 15-20 seasons than they are to 10, I'd Argue that 100 TPE is a pretty low estimate for the effects this could have, I see the number being closer to 150-200 actually which is quite significant.

And again, that's not 150 TPE for everyone, it's 150 TPE just for the very top. We aren't talking about a few attributes going from 97 to 98 either, this is more about people who max out well before they hit regression and are now just banking more and more points to be able to fight off regression almost indefinitely. In a time where people have been suggesting that regression isn't effective enough already, this seems like an entirely counterproductive move.

I do get the "it's too complicated, especially for newer people" argument, cleaning up and clarifying the updating process should be very high on the leagues agenda and an automated updating system (which might require getting rid of the cap) would be fantastic. But there is a reason why a complicating factor such as the cap was added originally, and those reasons are as valid today as they were back then.

Also, I'd argue that this isn't just about semi-actives and lazy people, it is also about regular and highly-engaged actives and allowing them to take a little breather one or twice a season by skipping a task they don't like without instantly falling behind. I think that goes a long way in preventing people from burning out. The cap also allows us higher flexibility with the tasks themselves and gives us the opportunity to try stuff like the weekend PTs or predictions who are only open a short time, stuff like this that can easily be missed would be much more problematic if there was no cap and people were required to do every single PT every single season if they don't want to fall behind.
