I only took a quick glance over those take away/give away advanced stats but there's no way simonT would ever track them in such a way that they are all in the 100's. Just off a glance, i'll need to look into it more to actually comment further. Moreso what prompts/searches he used. 

I have no idea how simon t tracks them, that's why I called it steals/turnovers and not takeaways/giveaways.
It counts 3 types of events: "hit by and loses puck (retrieved by the opposing team)", "pass intercepted by", "player loses puck. (retrieved by the opposing team)".

I think steals is a solid metric for defensive defensemen, although it's not the first thing I'd pay attention to.

It' true, not all hits are created equal. Sometimes i've seen players get 3 hits in a single play before actually getting control of the puck, sometimes they do it in one.

This situation would be handled correctly
