RE: League-Wide Voting: Defensive Defenseman Award - ArGarBarGar - 03-25-2019

So it will be the overall best defenseman and best defensive defenseman?

I don't think we have enough information in the sim to properly demonstrate defensive prowess, and I really hope we don't just divide offensive and defensive attributes into their own awards.

Also I don't think Garbanzo fits in defensive defenseman award. Even if I don't think +/- matters much, a player who is a career minus being named for the best defensive defender doesn't sit right with me.

I'm not sure what you mean here. For this season, however, we now have possession metrics, giveaways, takeways (all of which I really hope will continue to be made available), as well as defensive point shares along with things like shot blocks and hits, which I think is actually a pretty solid collection of metrics to determine defensive contributions. As for the Stevens, it will continue to evaluate overall performance and most definitely will not become an offensive defenseman award.

lol you're not wrong. But this is my first season as Awards Head and first season even as part of the committee. We went through and made amendments to our award guidelines to fix some of these issues where player performance evaluation has been over-simplified. And to focus on overall play, not only offensive play, for the Stevens was one of the things addressed.

Also here are some names of defensemen who played a lot of PK minutes for reference (may want to think about some names not included):

Cant 1110 2845
Weber 1015 2647
Velevra 953 2439
Biscuit 858 2387
Reid 858 2365
Nuck 1055 2347
Garbanzo 1208 2313

But yeah for me a defensive defender is a guy who could hit like a truck, blocked shots, but didn't necessarily put up a ton of points

A guy like Chuck Weird, who outside of one good offensive season was a prototypical defensive defender. Or a Zanis Zarins

It is tough without GA/TA in the sim to see who was effective despite lower point totals. I'm really excited about all the advanced stat articles we saw this season as someone who is a huge fan of defensive defenders in the SHL (Ive made two for better or worse)

VLAD McZ won the Award three times! Karpotsov 0 times and only Mexico with 4 or 5 was better in the history and that was at the beginning where all never need so many TPE than after S20 ... also we heard about some rigged sims.

like McDonald himself rigged what I heard!

Okay let me rename the Littleton to the Chris McZehrl Trophy while I'm at it.

idk why the Littelton should be name after Chris McZehrl? I am a Moron from S7 to S34

but Karpotsov never won the most points award and VLAD is the 2nd most winner of that award right after Mexico but he has the 100% legit name after the MVP trophy.
McDonald should also be renamed because we know that he was the simmer and rigged what I heard from the older members.
so it dont make sense to have these names if they never won those awards or rigged the sim to win those awards before they got their name on it.
That is just my reason for having some renames. I also dont know if Razov really was so good in playoffs :D

May I recommend the Willie Garbojo award?

Garbonzo is obviously the best player out of the three but yeah, when I think of him I don't think Defensive Defenseman, I think All-around beast. So I'd go with the other two who, while also strong offensively, had a bit more of a defensive focus. Weber probably was the better pure defensive player whereas Bojo has a bit of a stronger off-ice component to him that I think could play a role here as well - the guy has done so much for the league that he kinda deserved to get an award named after him on stuff like the Bojo Box and his work on HO and for WKP alone. So yeah, for me it is between Weber and Biscuit, slightly leaning Weber just because I'd emphasize player contribution over member contribution here.

Wish I played a few more seasons. Could have easily topped this list.

To be fair those pim records came because of fights. I used to be one of the top fighters in the league for a good span of seasons.

RE: League-Wide Voting: Defensive Defenseman Award - Boomcheck - 03-26-2019

Always thought of Mia Landvik as one of those steady types.

So overall there will be 2 awards? The best overall defenseman and the best defensive defenseman?

How about also introducing a best offensive defenseman that is just handed out to the defenseman with the highest # of points? Maybe that's already in the works, idk.

I only took a quick glance over those take away/give away advanced stats but there's no way simonT would ever track them in such a way that they are all in the 100's. Just off a glance, i'll need to look into it more to actually comment further. Moreso what prompts/searches he used.

It' true, not all hits are created equal. Sometimes i've seen players get 3 hits in a single play before actually getting control of the puck, sometimes they do it in one.
